(you'll be surprised at how easy it really is)

fter releasing the 3rd Volume of my Cycles Material Studies, I received a lot of questions on how I modeled the rope. It is pretty simple once you get the procedures right.

The same techniques presented here were also used for the models used in "Cancer" and "Family Portrait".

Read on and have fun! ^_^

1. Create the Base Shape
Start with an empty scene in Blender and (in Side View) add three intersecting circles (a la Venn Diagram). Make sure the rotations are applied.

2. Add a Curve
This will function as the modifying spline for the rope later. For demonstration purposes, we'll use a Bezier Curve. Make sure that the starting point matches the Circles' origin.

3. Add the Modifiers
Now this is where the fun starts. By using several modifiers on the Circles Object, you'll have a rope in your scene!

4. Deforming the Rope
The final step. Congratulations! You now have a handy rope. ;)

Thanks so much for the time. I hope you learned something new.

Do you have additional tips and suggestions?

Post them on the comments below.
